About Economics and Business Economics, BSc - at Radboud University, Nijmegen School of Management

Are you interested in financial management, exchange rates and the world economy? If so, then Economics and Business Economics might be the right programme for you. You will learn to analyse the financial choices and decisions that have to be made constantly by businesses, from family businesses to multinationals. You will examine the risks and national and international rules that organisations have to work within as well as how to best deal with uncertainties like fluctuating interest rates and competition. This programme suits people who like to analyse numbers and have a broad interest in the financial system and how this influences organisations.

Economics and Business Economics in Nijmegen is characterized by paying attention to other study fields besides economics as well. We call this Economics+. It means that in Nijmegen you do not only delve into numbers and money, but also into social issues such as income inequality, causes of a crisis, the euro and other currencies, international developments and global capital markets, because in economics, culture, psychology, sociology, and ethics also play a role. Therefore, bits and pieces of psychology, sociology, business administration and law are included in the studies of economics. After all, the way in which resources are used or the way in which markets operate is the effect of human decision-making.

Notes about fees for this course

The Dutch government has agreed to halve tuition fees for EU/EEA students for the first year (Bachelor's programmes only) and so the annual fee in the first year will amount to €1,105 in instead of €2,209.

Entry requirements

If you have completed or will complete a study programme outside of the Netherlands, then your previous education will be assessed on an individual basis to determine whether it is of sufficient level. This will be done both by the Admission Office and by the faculty. If the level is sufficient, you could be directly admissible or additional conditions may apply (such as taking an English or Mathematics test). For accepted English tests, please see below. For Mathematics tests: we accept the Mathematics A or B tests from the CCVX and Boswell-Bèta or SAT Mathematics test Level 1 or 2 with a minimum score 600.

English Language requirements

Your level of English needs to be sufficient in order for you to succeed in the programme. For you to be able to prove that your English is sufficient you must meet one of the following conditions:

obtained a Dutch VWO diploma;
obtained a German Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife, including Grundkurs or Leistungskurs Englisch in the Abitur;
obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma;
obtained a European Baccalaureate diploma, in which the course English Language 2 or 1 was taken;
obtained a diploma equivalent to, or higher than, the Dutch VWO level by completing education at an institution in one of the member states of the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, where the language of instruction is English.

If you do not meet one of the conditions mentioned above, you will need to take one of the following exams in order to fulfill the admission criteria (all certificates may not be older than two years):

obtain an IELTS Academic certificate with a result of at least 6.0 on the overall band and scores of at least 6.0 on all four sub-bands;
obtain a TOEFL iBT certificate with a total score of at least 80 and scores of at least 20 on all four parts;
obtain a Cambridge C1 Advanced Certificate (formerly known as CAE) with a mark of at least C;
obtain a Cambridge C2 proficiency Certificate (formerly known as CPE) with a mark of at least C.
