About Design Innovation and Entrepreneurship, BEng (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Many modern large companies began life as the brainchild of a single person with a great idea. Typically, that person was an engineer or an inventor who had conceived a unique product and who also had the business skills to nurture the idea from a concept to a prototype, to a product, to a business. To succeed, that person needed the imagination and vision to recognise a niche in the market. After that, they would need to have the design and engineering skills to realise a possible product. Finally, they would have to be able to build the product, market and sell it, and make a profit in doing so. This is a tried and tested route to success. This programme, with access to 3000m² of specialist and integrated engineering laboratories, offers you the opportunity to learn all of these important skills.

Management at Medway Campus

Nearly 50% of the top250 Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) companies have a CEO who hold an engineering degree. Our Faculty of Engineering and Science offers a range ofbusiness and management degrees like this one to set you on the road to leadership.

Accreditation

This degree programme is three years long in full-time mode. It is a new programme, but it is strongly anticipated that it will be accredited as:

  • Fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
  • Partially satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

A programme of accredited further learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng. See, for example, the Institution of Engineering and Technology website for further information and details of further learning programmes for CEng status. Please see the MEng programmes if you are looking for CEng status without further academic study.

Outcomes

The aims of the programme are:

  • To provide you with the knowledge and skills relevant to a career as a professional engineer who can work effectively with current and future engineering product design, development and production/implementation methods
  • To support you in understanding the innovative and pioneering approaches in this field and to be able to apply them to the solution of real-world problems to develop new products and technologies in a financially sustainable way
  • To help you acquire the knowledge and skills required to perform a variety of professional roles within engineering, design and business, including management roles.
