About Canon Law, PhD - at KU Leuven

This programme consists of successful completion, submission and defence of the dissertation.

The evaluation and public defence of the dissertation consist of the following steps:

  • Composition of the Reading Committee;
  • Submission of the doctoral dissertation;
  • Evaluation by the Reading Committee;
  • Submission of the final version of the doctoral dissertation;
  • Preparation of the public defence;
  • The public defence.

The promotion to Doctor of Canon Law takes place at the end of the public defence of the dissertation.

Entry requirements

Students meet both requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Doctoral Programme in Canon Law after attestation by the Doctoral Commission;
  • Degree 'Iuris Canonici Licentatiatus'.
