About Law and Economics, LLM - at Centre for Commercial Law Studies

The LLM in Law and Economics is a programme offered by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). This specialist programme will train in Law and Economics, an interdisciplinary topic which draws from both arenas. The programme utilises different teaching technics to challenge students. It is designed for anyone with an academic background in Law or Economics.

  • Master a new discipline. If you are a lawyer, you will consider the legal implication of financial and economic dilemmas. If you are an economist, you will consider the economic impact of new laws and regulations.
  • Gain the theory, knowledge, and practical skills required to work in any legal, banking, financial, governmental or research institution.
  • High-profile guest lecturers have included the  General Counsel and Director of the Legal Department (IMF) and the Chief Legal Advisor (Bank of England) and the former Minister of Finance of Greece.
  • Taught by academics from the Institute for Global Law, Economics and Finance (IGLEF) and the The Institute of Banking and Finance Law.

The programme involves two core interdisciplinary modules focusing on Law and Economics. These modules are complemented with modules in law, theoretical and applied economics to provide you with the necessary tools to analyse various legal frameworks that shape markets. You will select from taught modules from both law and economics, enabling you to focus on your interest and gear your qualification toward your desired career trajectory. You will select these modules during a comprehensive induction period where the teaching staff will provide you with an overview of their content.

If you want to review or gain a broad understanding of financial and legal concepts such as statistical distributions and matrix algebra, you have the option to attend pre-sessional modules and have access to basic statistics and statistical software.

You will also have voluntary access to an excellent series of lectures in Critical Thinking and Writing in Law to help you improve your writing and research in law skills.
