About Science with Education and Qualified Teacher Status, BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

This course is for people with relevant qualifications or academic credit who want to teach science in secondary schools. There is a shortage of qualified science teachers. The course includes * one year of mostly subject-based study to bring you up to degree level in science, with some experience in schools * a final professional year where you gain teaching experience in at least two schools and develop teaching skills that meet the standards for qualified teacher status * university-based study for professional development You study biology, chemistry and physics to prepare you to teach at Key Stage 3, and one science specialism for teaching at Key Stage 4 and beyond. During the early part of your course you have some school experience. In your final year you spend at least 24 weeks in schools. We assign you a school-based trained mentor to help your development. Your teaching skills improve through working with individual pupils, small groups and whole classes. We have strong partnerships with secondary schools in the area and many of our trainees find employment in our placement schools.Is teaching for you?Our free three day taster course gives you information to help find out if teaching is for you.
