Study

Philosophy at UEA has a dynamic, highly distinctive research profile: specialisms at various frontiers of the subject include: philosophy and the arts, (literature, film, music) philosophy and linguistics, environmental philosophy and metaphilosophy, (epistemology and methodology of philosophy). One-on-one supervisions are complemented by the Philosophy Postgraduate Research Training Workshop, a research skills module for all Masters' students.

Each module involves doing research on individually agreed topics from one area of the subject, under the guidance of a member of academic staff with results presented in essays. It is also possible to take language training, (Ancient Greek, German for philosophical research purposes) in place of a module(s). A dissertation is also written on a topic chosen by the student.

Teaching

The department Philosophy at UEA is a leading centre for research on Wittgenstein, with members also working in the areas of ancient philosophy, early modern philosophy and Kant, phenomenology, and the history of analytic philosophy. Experts and graduates alike are constantly in touch with students, such as a weekly guest lectures and workshops which add to the vibrancy of this course.
