About Geography, BA, BSc - at University of Exeter

Geography in Exeter is a dynamic discipline concerned with processes and patterns in human and natural environments. Our programmes aim to provide you with a broad understanding of geographical aspects of human society and the physical environment and their complex interrelationships. We then offer you an opportunity to develop your own interests in the discipline and gain a more detailed appreciation of a variety of specific aspects of geography in which the School specialises. Through field work and other forms of experiential learning, the programmes particularly aim to promote curiosity about social, cultural and natural environments and to enable you to develop a range of skills specific to the geographer as well as a series of cognitive, generic and transferable skills.

The three-year Single Honours Geography programmes at the Streatham Campus lead either to a BA or a BSc. The key differences between the BA and BSc programmes are that BA students take human geography practical and field trip modules in Year 2, and take a human geography oriented dissertation in their final year; while BSc students take physical geography practical and field trip modules in Year 2 and carry out a physical geography oriented dissertation in their final year.

As our students will have varied educational backgrounds with diverse A level combinations, the first year of the programme provides a grounding in both physical and human geography, in preparation for greater flexibility and specialisation in the second and final years. You can take combinations of both physical and human geography options in your second and final years.
