Early Childhood Studies Degrees in the UK

Study Early Childhood Studies Degrees

Early childhood studies look at the impact of various elements on early childhood, and the effect this can have on development, learning and health. As a student of early years studies, you will consider the impact of parents, early years settings (such as nursery or kindergarten), and any other wider social factors on young children. You will also promote the rights of children and their rights within settings they come across.

Graduates of a degree in early childhood studies will have a range of career opportunities available to them. The most common destination for graduates tends to be within settings that work with young children, such as nursery, primary school and social work. Other career options include counselling, local authority positions and parenting support roles.

Your degree will be delivered through a mixture of modes. These will include lectures and seminars, as well as practical sessions. Depending on your course, you may also be required or encouraged to take part in a work placement. Modules you study could include:

  • Early Childhood Development
  • Play and Pedagogy
  • Infant Health and Wellbeing
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Early Language and Communication
