Study Interaction Design Masters Programmes

Interaction design, which is often referred to as IxD, refers to the process of the design and creation of interactive digital products, systems, and services. These might include computer programs, PoS (point of sale) systems, and mobile applications, among others.

The discipline of interaction design takes elements from various other subject areas, like psychology, user experience, and software engineering. The aim of an interaction designer is to create products and services that are simple and efficient for users, as well as looking appealing.

As an area based within the design and digital fields, students with an interest in digital design, user experience and software development might find interaction design an interesting subject to study.

By studying in this field, your modules are likely to cover topics such as:

  • Mobile Application Development
  • Digital Design
  • Experience Design
  • Software Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence

As a graduate of interaction design, you may find a career in a range of sectors, with your skills being useful across fields, for example:

  • Interaction Designer
  • User Researcher
  • Creative Technologist
  • Social Media Planner

Postgraduate programmes in Interaction Design are most commonly offered at universities around the world as a Master of Science (MSc/MS), which can typically take 1-2 years to complete when studied full-time, and could include an industrial placement year.

Entry requirements for a postgraduate programme in interaction design will usually include a bachelor/undergraduate degree in a related subject such as user experience design, software engineering, or digital design.
